Initial Contact Discussion:
Debrief of first contact made between me and my student partner in Hong Kong:
What do you have in common?
I feel like me and my partner have a lot in common. We both have a shared love of movies and television, particularly Grey's Anatomy and Westworld.
Even the characters we are drawn to are similar. We both like Meredith's monologues in Grey's because of how they frame the episodes.
In Westworld we both are super impressed by Thandie Newton and it's great timing considering she just won a emmy for her amazing performance. We both love how her character develops through the seasons 1 and 2
What do you have that's different/strange?
This is an interesting question to consider. I think the one thing I have noticed without messages back and forth between us have felt very formal. I've found myself avoiding terms like 'Lol', 'lmao' and even swear words.
I've also noticed that we do have a lot in common regarding the music we like and the tv shows and movies. Honestly I've found this strange because I wasn't expecting it. I think i'd prepared myself to be meeting someone who was a lot more different than me. I'm not disappointed though, i think it has been good to be able to talk about stuff we like with having to explain what it is etc.
What are you and your Hong Kong partner inspired by? Are they the same things?
We both share a love of movies and tv and have a similar taste in the pop culture. Through conversation we both find a lot of inspiration from sci-fi stories and i think we both wish to create content that is diverse and relevant while creating a sense of escapism.
